Amsterdam is full of surprises, but one of its most delightful has to be Artis – the urban zoo that’s a haven of nature and history, right in the centre of the city. From elephants to ants, there are all kinds of exotic creatures to discover at Artis, making it an absolute must-see after arriving on cheap flights to Amsterdam.
Founded in 1838, Artis is now the third oldest zoo in Europe, and home to many hundreds of animals of all shapes and sizes. With cheetahs, chameleons, wolves and giraffes among the inhabitants of Artis’ lush landscaped gardens, you’re sure to get an opportunity to see your favourite animals up close, and maybe even catch a show in which you can learn more about them.
A Full Day of Fun
You’ll need to set aside more than a few hours for your visit to Artis, as in addition to the outdoor enclosures there’s also an indoor rainforest, insect house, aquarium, planetarium, butterfly museum, geological museum and zoological research facilities. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your camera!
Close to Central Station and easily accessible by bike or on foot, Artis will be a great experience for all the family when visiting on cheap flights to Amsterdam from Jet2.com. With flights starting at just £20.99 one way including taxes, you’ll have plenty of cash left over for those ubiquitous Artis souvenirs.
