Barcelona is the city of festivals and they don’t come much bigger than the International Jazz Festival. Europe’s premier jazz event plays host to some of the world’s finest performers playing over 80 concerts during November.
The festival takes place at fifteen various venues around Barcelona including the world famous Palau de la Musica Catalana, Jamboree, Harlem Jazz Club and L’Auditori.
For 2011’s festival, Barcelona has collaborated with the legendary Italian Umbria Jazz Festival to present a mixture of Spanish and top Italian jazz, with big names like pianist Stefano Bollani, as well as jazz groups like the Neil Cowley Trio and the Pat Metheny Trio.
Other Events to Discover
As usual there will be other fringe events taking place throughout the festival including various exhibitions, as well as something quite unique in the world of music - a jazz and gastronomy concert, which combines jazz with wine tasting, cocktails and delicious Spanish cuisine.
Tickets are available online at www.telentrada.com and can be purchased using a debit or credit card. However, some of the concerts are free so check the website for further details. The closing concert will be at the L’Auditori on December 1st.
With lots of cheap flights to Barcelona available at Jet2.com this winter, you could be sitting in the front row during one of the concerts at this year’s International Jazz Festival.
