The Paris Bar in Berlin has a reputation for being the place where celebrities go to relax and have a good time, but what many people don’t realise is that not only is it a great bar, but it also houses an incredible and original art collection. This has been the venue of choice for big name stars including Jack Nicholson, Madonna, Robert De Niro and David Bowie, to name but a few, who have stopped by to enjoy an evening in what has to be the most famous eatery in the whole of the city.
It is not only the big names that walk through the Paris Bar’s doors that have earned the bar its reputation, but also the incredible prestigious art works that hang around the walls. The most famous image, painted by Martin Kippenberger took pride of place in the centre of the eatery, and conveniently named ‘Paris Bar’ the piece has immortalised the place on canvas. Unfortunately when the bar hit hard times the piece had to be sold, raising €2.5 million and saving the Paris Bar from its fate. In its place now is a work by Daniel Richter.
A selection of art works from the Paris Bar has been placed in a special exhibition entitled Charade, at Berlin’s Haubrokshow Gallery which makes a great place to visit when on a Berlin city break. Cheap flights to Berlin are available through Jet2.com all year round, making any time the perfect one for a trip.
