Jazz lovers and musicians alike will be booking cheap flights to Amsterdam with Jet2.com this summer, in order to enjoy the Port of Rotterdam North Sea Jazz Festival, which will run from July 12th – 14th.
The largest indoor jazz festival in the world, the event is internationally renowned for its diverse coverage of music genres, covering every jazz style from blues and swing to electronic funk and hip hop.
Launched in 1976 by a billionaire businessman and jazz lover, it became a showcase for both new artists and jazz legends, with Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman and Sarah Vaughan among the names on the 1976 programme. This year, confirmed appearances include Santana, Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ramsey Lewis, McCoy Tyner, Sting, Dionne Warwick and Branford Marsalis. The full schedule will be announced in April.
The North Sea Jazz Festival moved from the Hague to the Ahoy complex in the Port of Rotterdam eight years ago, and was renamed following a recent sponsorship deal that will ensure it remains at its present location for at least the next five years. Preceding it, however, is the North Sea Round Town pre-festival ‘warm-up’, which runs from June 22nd to July 8th; incorporating a Jazz Day networking event on June 24th and a gastronomic festival (with jazz performances) from June 30th to July 3rd.
