The Greek holiday season may be coming to a close elsewhere, but there are still plenty of cheap flights to Crete where, for one innovative resort, the season is only just beginning.

Booking cheap flights to Crete out of season gives travellers the chance to immerse themselves in the culture and traditions of this lovely isle, particularly if they head for the Eleonas agritourism resort in the south of the island. Run by the Saridakis family, it offers a hands-on Cretan experience in a traditional farming environment, with courses on olive harvesting, Greek cookery, Cretan crafts, and other subjects throughout the autumn and winter months.

Delicious Food Too

Located in the idyllic village of Zaros, on the slopes of the UNESCO site of Mount Psiloritis, the Saridakis family entered the holiday business seven years ago. The family took advantage of its natural resources, cooking skills and creativity by offering lessons to guests, which later became a platform for specialist packages, allowing them to operate beyond the summer season.

A summer holiday at the Saridakis farm is a culinary experience and all ingredients are either produced by themselves or sourced locally. Their specialist Made In Crete breaks, however, offer the chance to get hands-on experience in the art of preparing mezes, moussaka and other delicious dishes using herbs, eggs and olives gathered by guests themselves. Raki and wine tastings are also on offer, as is olive oil production.
