12th July 2012
Although many of Amsterdam’s delights are to be found in the centre of the city, on the south side of the river, every year north Amsterdam comes to life at Over Het IJ Festival – a celebration of theatre, food, music and of course, the region itself.
It’s a thrilling date on Amsterdam’s packed events calendar that has visitors flocking on cheap flights to Amsterdam from all over Europe, and taking the ferry across the IJ to enjoy spectacular theatrical performances during the day, and some great DJ sets at night!
Taking place between the 5th and 15th July, over Het IJ Festival draws attention to the unique qualities of north Amsterdam with location-specific theatre. In fact, the festival is held in the grounds of a former shipyard, but some performances take place in the surrounding neighbourhood too so you may have the opportunity to experience theatre in some rather unexpected locations.
As with any great festival there will also be plenty of food and drink stands to check out, so you won’t go hungry after arriving on cheap flights to Amsterdam. What’s more, you can snap up cheap Jet2.com flights to Amsterdam from just £20.99 one way including taxes, leaving you plenty of money left over to stock up on snacks.
