17th October 2011
Visit the small coastal town of Sitges on any normal day of the year and you’ll be won over by its beautiful whitewashed houses, golden beaches and quaint cobbled streets. However, for ten days in October, the town is transformed into a hive of activity as it hosts the number one fantasy and horror film festival in the world.
The long running festival was first established in 1967 and it’s been a resounding success over the decades, attracting the likes of Quentin Tarantino, George A Romero, Sam Raimi, Jodie Foster, Cameron Diaz, Jon Voight and Sir Anthony Hopkins, to name a few.
Lights, Camera, Action
From the 6th - 16th October Sitges will come alive with hundreds of film screenings and exhibitions as movie fans mingle with some of the world’s best actors, directors and producers.
This year the event will honour Hollywood movie director, Bryan Singer, whose long list of movies include: The Usual Suspects, X-Men and Superman Returns.
Getting to the Film Festival
Getting to Sitges from Barcelona couldn’t be simpler. It’s south of the city centre and around twelve miles from the airport. Public transport is fast and frequent. Trains take around fifteen minutes and buses take around half an hour. There are taxis from the airport too, which cost around 60 Euros.
With plenty of last minute cheap flights to Barcelona available at Jet2.com, you could soon be mixing with some of the world’s finest moviemakers at this month’s Sitges Film Festival.
