Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, said: I knew Freddie, admired him and respected what he did; he was an inspiration for me. I am determined that Jet2.com will continue to follow Freddie's ethos - offering low cost travel to ordinary people. Our thoughts are with Freddie's family at this sad time".
Freddie founded his low cost Skytrain flights in the face of determined opposition from the world's great airlines. He began flying his aircraft from London to New York with flights costing as little as £118. This was a first in terms of low cost travel and, as you can imagine, had huge support from the travelling public. Airlines such as Jet2.com have since kept the low cost model alive.
