A taste of the Mediterranean comes to the Netherlands this April when house-music institution Hed Kandi visits the stunning setting of the Muziekgebouw purpose-built music hall in Amsterdam.
For one night only the dance music imprint brings its Circus Balearica stage show from its highly successful residency in Ibiza to the European mainland. Hed Kandi DJs are to perform accompanied by dancers, fire-eaters and showgirls for a night of dance, disco and spectacle.
The night comes at the beginning of the Amsterdam’s diverse and packed festival season. Throughout, summer events of all kinds come thick and fast, and cheap flights to Amsterdam put attendance within everybody’s reach. The city is pedestrianised and very bicycle friendly, making them ideal for handy travel between the city’s venues and parklands.
Open Air Shows
First on the agenda is the Imagine Film Festival in April, as sci-fi and horror fans flock to Amsterdam for gala screenings of the genres latest and greatest offerings.
Following on in June is the Holland Festival, the Netherlands’ flagship theatre event, with avant-garde performances of works that combine theatre with music, art, dance, opera and film. This year’s Festival closes with a Tchaikovsky opera performance at the Muziektheatre, filmed and projected live on a big screen in the open air of Oosterpark with free admission.
Throughout the summer the city hosts daily performances of all kinds at the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre. Whether its kid’s theatre, jazz and world music or dance shows you’re after, the Vondelpark is open to all and performances are free.
As a destination for art lovers Amsterdam is second to none, and with cheap flights available it is the perfect destination for those looking to experience a world of culture.
