If you fancy hanging out with a glamorous crowd this summer, the Balearic Island of Ibiza is always a sure bet. Celebrities can’t resist the charms of the White Isle, famed for its clubbing and wild parties and yet increasingly home to charming agrotourism hotels and world-class spas where healing rather than hedonism is on the agenda.
Celebrities such as Elle Macpherson, James Blunt and Jade Jagger all have villas on the island, attracted by the bohemian lifestyle and life-enhancing med. climate. Everyone’s favourite royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have visited, staying in a yacht off Salinas Beach. Rather than cause a stir, they ordered boat service from Blue Marlin (bluemarlinibiza.com), a chi-chi beach bar, music venue and restaurant on Cala Jondal, a sure-fired celebrity hangout for summer 2011.
The other famously engaged Kate, as in Moss, is a regular to the island and rumour has it that she’s planning the hen party to end all hen parties on the island prior to her summer wedding.
Pop legend, Kylie stayed last year, and launched her album at beach club Amante (amanteibiza.com) before heading to Pacha (pacha.com) for a secret gig. Lily Allen is another regular visitor and has been spotted with Kate Moss on Top Shop owner, Philip Green's yacht.
Leonardo DiCaprio is an Ibiza fan and last October he returned to the island with his supermodel girlfriend Bar Rafaeli. He was rumoured to have rented a luxury villa in Cap Martinet.
Girls Aloud party girl Sarah Harding is often seen here during the club season accompanying her DJ fiancé Tom Crane, during his DJ set at Es Paradis (esparadis.com). The couple love the island and it’s rumoured that they’re buying a villa there.
Radio and TV presenter George Lamb was on the newlylaunched British Airways route from London City Airport to Ibiza and later enjoyed DJ sets from Pete Tong, Mark Ronson, Sasha, Skreamand a live set from Buraka Som Sistema and David E Sugar at the 2010 International Music Summit (internationalmusicsummit.com). This year’s IMS:11 takes place from 25–27 May if you feel like heading down. The 5* Ibiza Gran Hotel (ibizagranhotel.com) is the place to see and be seen.
If you’re really keen on hanging with the in-crowd this summer, get yourselves over to the new Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel (ushuaiaibiza.com), which opens in May. The new place to be on Ibiza, Ushuaïa will ooze a VIP-ambience with the best live music performances from top international DJs in a beautiful beach-side setting. Now where’s that cocktail list?
