Home to fashion designers Viktor & Rolf and urban clothing brand G-Star, the Dutch city is bursting with cutting edge clothes shops selling everything from big names to tiny independents. With its cobbled streets now rated amongst the best in the world for shopping experience, it seems holidaymakers are finding temptations of a new sort in Amsterdam.
Among The Best In Europe
The city’s most expensive shopping street, the P.C Hoofstraat, was recently ranked among the “nicest” designer streets in the world, coming out ahead of top shopping destinations in London and Tokyo. The stores scored high marks for their friendly customer service and welcoming atmosphere. World famous brands including Cartier, Chanel and Gucci all have branches here.
Meanwhile, the Dutch have voted the streets Haarlemmerstraat and Haarlemmerdijk as their favourite shopping destination. With roughly 240 businesses including hip cafes, boutique hotels, independent shops and fashionable restaurants, there is plenty here to spend your money on, and the vibrant atmosphere is second to none.
The city also hosts a number of open-air markets, including the Albert Cuypmarkt and the Dappermarkt. Street vendors here sell everything from fruit and vegetables to clothes and electrical goods, proving that there’s so much more than tulips to bring home from Amsterdam.
