Jet2.com’s First Anniversary at Glasgow Airport

14th September 2011

  • Destinations doubled to 16, more flights on sale today, increased capacity to popular resorts
  • Celebratory offer - 10 per cent off all return flights, £100 off holidays
  • 50 new jobs and third aircraft planned for 2012

Leading leisure airline Jet2.com is today celebrating its first year at Glasgow Airport with 10 per cent off all flights and more flights put on sale. Having already transported 250,000 passengers to city, sun and ski destinations across Europe the airline has today announced further expansion for summer 2012 with a third based aircraft and 50 new jobs.

To mark the one year anniversary of the launch of its Glasgow programme Jet2.com is offering an extra 10 per cent off all new return flight bookings for a limited time. Customers simply enter the promotional code SALE10 at the time of booking for 10 per cent off 15 Jet2.com city, sun and ski destinations from Glasgow*. Flight prices from Glasgow start from £29.99 one way including taxes.

Based on the success to date additional flights to the popular holiday destination of Dalaman in Turkey, and increased capacity to Nice in the South of France, for the peak holiday period, have now been put on sale.

Package holidays from sister company Jet2holidays are proving increasingly popular with Glasgow leisure travellers – holiday prices start from just £279 per person for seven nights in Majorca with a wallet-friendly deposit of just £60 each to secure the booking. The good news for holidaymakers is that there is an extra £100 off holidays from Glasgow booked by 31st October 2011 – when the 100SAVE code is inserted when booking. In addition to perfectly planned flight times, all Jet2holidays passengers enjoy a generous 22kg luggage allowance and allocated seating.

To provide the extra capacity a third Jet2.com aircraft will be based at Glasgow Airport from Easter 2012.  This additional aircraft will create 50 new pilot, cabin crew and ground staff jobs and will take the total number of Jet2.com seats available from Glasgow Airport to 500,000 – making it the airline’s fourth largest UK base.

Since September 2010 Jet2.com has more than doubled its destinations and now offers 16 popular leisure destinations. Avid skiers can getaway to Geneva from this December – those booking now can take advantage of the free ski and snowboard carriage offer on flights until 24th March 2012, worth £50 on return flights, by entering the code FREESKI when booking. Christmas shoppers can jet off to the Big Apple on a special New York shopping break, flying direct from Glasgow on 17 November.

The extra destination choices for summer 2012 are five Spanish hotspots Barcelona, Murcia, Ibiza, Malaga and Lanzarote, and culture vultures can explore majestic Rome from March next year.

Steve Heapy, Chief Commercial Officer of Jet2.com, commented: “Our first year at Glasgow Airport has been tremendously successful.  Adding nine new destinations demonstrates our commitment to growth in Glasgow and we aim to continue to add routes that reflect our customers’ holiday choices. Majorca, Turkey and Cyprus are proving extremely popular at the moment with bookings for next year already soaring.

“Our exciting plans for 2012 will mean even more Glasgow passengers will have direct access to an increasing number of fantastic destinations. This along with our competitive pricing, great flight times and generous 22kg baggage allowance will help ensure our loyal customers continue to fly with Jet2.com.”

Francois Bourienne, Commercial Director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Since arriving at Glasgow Airport, Jet2.com has been a great success, developing and tailoring a fantastic range of destinations to suit our customers’ travel needs. We always knew the leisure airline would be a popular choice with Glasgow and the West of Scotland.  We are delighted with the strong demand for flights and holiday packages and the rate in which the airline’s list of destinations has grown over the year. I would like to congratulate the team at Jet2.com for its commitment to Glasgow over the past year and wish the airline continued success for the future.”

Jet2.com will receive further support from Scottish Enterprise in 2012 from the Regional Selective Assistance Scotland Scheme.
