- Sky’s the limit as Newcastle Jet2.com crew member stars in Sky1’s new series Show Boaters
Newcastle Airport-based
Jet2.com cabin
crew member, Karl Mullen (28), who lives in South Shields, swaps planes for
cruise ships as he prepares to star in Sky1’s new entertainment series, Show
Boaters.

Show Boaters, which starts
on Tuesday 13th September at 8pm, will follow ten talented
contestants onboard a luxury cruise ship as they battle to become the headline
act on the ship’s entertainment programme.
Karl, who joined leading
leisure airline Jet2.com as a member of cabin crew earlier this year, has been
a keen performer from a young age and even won a place at Newcastle’s
Performance Academy, which has the likes of Xfactor’s Joe McElderry and Ant and
Dec among its alumni. Since then Karl has taken part in numerous plays and
musicals, as well as appearing as an extra for West End productions such as
Grease, Evita and Little Shop of Horrors.
Karl commented: “I love
working for Jet2.com and performing is something that’s in my blood so when
I saw the advert for Show Boaters I just had to apply and I’m so chuffed to
have been picked. My colleagues at Newcastle Airport have been really
supportive and they’ve all promised to watch – we’re just like a family which
is why working for Jet2.com is so much fun.”
Karl revealed that filming
for the show took place on a cruise round the Caribbean: “It was an amazing
trip and we got to visit places like Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba, Mexico and
Venezuela.
“It wasn’t all lazing
around in the sun though. Every time we docked we were given a new shore-based
challenge which certainly added to the drama and excitement, although you’ll
have to watch the show to find out the really juicy gossip!”
Ian Doubtfire, managing
director of Jet2.com, commented: “We’ve always known that our cabin crew
are an incredibly talented bunch and we’re really proud of Karl. One of the key elements that we look for in
all of our cabin crew is a friendly, outgoing personality so Karl’s performing
skills give him great confidence and rapport with customers. We’ve got our fingers crossed for Karl and as
he can’t reveal how he’s done or the outcome of the show, we’ll all be watching
every show to find out.”
Jet2.com
has 77 cabin crew members based at Newcastle providing its award winning
customer service on flights to city, sun and ski destinations. Cabin crew recruitment for 2012 will be commencing shortly and those interested in joining
Karl and his colleagues in a career in the sky can find out more and apply
on-line at www.Jet2.com/careers.
