Jet2.com, the leading leisure airline with friendly low fares, and the key leisure airline of Blackpool Airport, has secured its future in Blackpool with the decision to self-handle its operation. This news will be welcomed by the more than 200,000 passengers who fly to and from Blackpool with Jet2.com each year.
10 Members of Blackpool Airport staff have transferred to employment with Jet2.com. The new self-handling arrangements came into play on 1 January 2011. These new Jet2.com team members will be undertaking meeting and greeting, check in and airside operational roles. The new members of staff will undergo training to provide them with the customer service values that Jet2.com prides itself on. The new self- handling arrangement will also mean that passengers can book flights at the Jet2.com customer services desk.
The new members of staff bring the current total Jet2.com employees at Blackpool, including flight deck and cabin crew, to over 60. In order to operate through the peak summer months Jet2.com will be seeking an additional 10 members of staff.
Boss of Jet2.com Philip Meeson said, "This investment in Jet2.com's operation at Blackpool Airport demonstrates our commitment to continuing to provide leisure flights at friendly low fares for the people of Blackpool and the Fylde coast.
"We are pleased to welcome to our friendly team the dedicated and loyal former members of Blackpool Airport staff, who would otherwise have been made redundant by the airport. This news will allay customers fears as they can now rest assured that they can continue to travel with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays from Blackpool Airport."
Jet2.com already has flights on sale for Summer 2011 and Winter 2011/12 with Jet2.com and sister company package holiday specialist Jet2holidays. Jet2.com flies to 8 destinations from Blackpool - Algarve (Faro), Alicante, Belfast, Jersey, Majorca, Malaga, Murcia and Tenerife from £19.99 one way including taxes.
Jet2.com has carried over 1 million passengers to and from Blackpool since it launched flights from Blackpool Airport in 2005. Jet2.com's convenient flight times, generous 22kg baggage allowance and allocated seats have proved very popular with the people of Blackpool encouraging a high rate of repeat bookings.
