Three hundred and sixty tons of sand will transform the city centre into a seaside-pleasure park, complete with bucket and spades stalls, flags, bunting and fairground rides whilst the popular Riviera bar and food stalls will provide refreshments and a variety of food all day long.
A large paddling pool will complement the Square's water feature and there will be tables, deck chairs and sun loungers along the Long Row promenade to seat around 320 people.
The Nottingham Riviera opened on July 23 for six weeks throughout the summer holidays until September 5. Open daily from 10am until 11pm, the Riviera will provide free beach fun for the family during the day with late afternoon and evening relaxation for city workers, commuters and the cool night time crowd.
This year sees the return of popular rides such as the Helter Skelter and Waveswinger, plus two new attractions – Seastorm and Bumper boats bringing more thrills and spills to the square during the summer holidays.
Each day there will be a programme of free entertainment and activities around the beach, including sports, themed food nights and live music. Don’t miss out on a taste of Spain with Tapas Tuesdays in conjunction with the Spanish Tourist Board. On the opening Tapas Tuesday (27th July) the Spanish Tourist Board will be serving up a treat with a huge paella (3mx3m) between noon and 2pm as well as putting on some authentic entertainment in the evening to get you in the Spanish mood.
