22nd May 2009

The inaugural Jet2.com flight from Manchester Airport direct to Tel Aviv, Israel departs today (21st May). Jet2.com is the only airline to offer a direct route from the North of England, following the demise of other services.

The first flight departed at 10am on Thursday 21st May with Ian Doubtfire, MD at Jet2.com, Andrew Cornish, Managing Director at Manchester Airport, Lee Warren, Fleet Planning Manager at Jet2.com, Janice Mathers, Commercial Manager at Jet2.com, and special guest Rabbi Brodie from Beth Din in attendance to celebrate the launch of the flight to Tel Aviv.

Rabbi Brodie said: “I am delighted that Jet2.com has launched this direct route to Tel Aviv which is sure to appeal to many travellers.

“This welcome investment into tourism to Israel will undoubtedly be of benefit to the consumer and strengthen links between the North of England and Tel Aviv.” The airline is so confident that the service will be such a popular addition to its Manchester schedule that the route has recently been increased from weekly to twice weekly on the 21st December to 4th January and from 22nd March to 26th April.

Andrew Cornish, Managing Director for Manchester Airport, said: “Jet2.com has been one of the success stories in the airline industry over the last few years. The Tel Aviv route will strengthen its position further at Manchester and offer both business and leisure passengers the option of visiting Israel.”

Ian Doubtfire, MD of Jet2.com said: “The inaugural flight to Tel Aviv marks and emphasises the commitment Jet2.com has to explore a variety of new markets and countries. Tel Aviv is a thriving and cosmopolitan beach city that makes an exciting holiday destination.

“As the only direct route from the North, we are in an unrivalled position to offer both the lowest ever fares and fastest service into Israel. Tel Aviv is an extremely popular destination and we are confident there will be a huge demand for this service.”
