Jet2.com passengers took off from Leeds Bradford International Airport and Newcastle Airport this morning for a shopping weekend in the Big Apple. In a week when the county had seen the most snow for decades the Jet2.com team were determined to minimise disruption for customers.
Ian Doubtfire, Managing Director of Jet2.com, said: "Despite the challenging weather we are pleased that we got our flights away to New York. It is testament to the dedication of our ground teams and crews that we were able to operate the flights in these difficult conditions. The passengers were very excited and it's a lot warmer where they are going."
It was an early start for the passengers for the 9am flight but they were determined that they would not let the weather put their trip on ice – unlike the champagne that was sure to be flowing on the very special flight.
After a weekend shopping and enjoying all that the world's most exciting city has to offer the customers will return to Leeds Bradford and Newcastle on 5 December.
Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director at LBIA, added: "Leeds Bradford Airport is pleased to see the return of shopping weekends direct to the Big Apple from Yorkshire's Gateway Airport."
With Jet2.com's generous 22kg baggage allowance the shoppers can stock up on Christmas gifts, party outfits and all those items you just can't buy on this side of the pond.
The shopping weekend is the first of two New York weekends – the next will fly on 9 December from Leeds Bradford and Newcastle and are already sold out.
