Holidaymakers in the Algarve this June will find the region teeming with events.
Portugal has begun its preparations for the forthcoming Corpus Christi Holy Day. The event, which is one of the most important and widely celebrated in the Portuguese calendar, is held throughout the country, but has a distinct emphasis in the southern region of the Algarve.
The Algarve will have an abundance of different events to take part in during the holiday, which falls on June 23rd this year. Quinta do Lago in particular will have a range of different music, dancing and fireworks for tourists and locals alike to enjoy.
An Extra Reason to Visit the Algarve
What’s more, the coastline of the southern region, with its golden sands and warm waters, is a perfect holiday destination year-round, making the trip for Corpus Christi particularly enjoyable.
The festival is one of Catholic origin. It commemorates the Last Supper, when Jesus gave his disciples bread and wine and told them it was his body and blood. Mass will be held on the 23rd, and you will be able to see a procession of people carrying the consecrated water of the Eucharist through the streets of the Algarve.
Resorts and accommodation in the Algarve are amongst the best in the country, and there’ll be cheap flights to Portugal from Jet2.com during the summer. Viewing how Corpus Christi is celebrated in Portugal is a unique experience, and when coupled with what the Algarve already has to offer, it’s an opportunity that shouldn’t be ignored.
