The typical food found in Prague is usually categorised as being stodgy, hearty grub but there is a new wave of restaurants and eateries emerging in the popular Czech capital. Three months ago Sansho, an Asian-inspired restaurant, was opened by Brit chef and former butcher, Paul Day.
Being a butcher and earning his culinary stripes at the celebrated Michelin starred Nobu restaurant in London certainly gives Mr Day the ideal background for Czech food. However, he is hoping to tantalise visitor’s tastebuds with a different kind of menu.
Mr Day is quoted by Reuters saying: “The changing food scene here is also extremely exciting. It has had an awful reputation in the past but now I think Czech people are proud of what is going on in Prague. There are lots of really good new restaurants opening.”
Putting the Fun Back into Dining
There is also an emphasis on putting the fun back into dining out, making a visit to the restaurant more of an occasion. Mr Day continued by saying:
“I think you have to have a little bit of fluidity and creativity to the space you have. This space and our food concept really suits communal dining. In the old Czech pubs it was the same. I thought it would be quite nice to have communal dining here.”
