Today (18th November) Jet2.com’s parent company, Dart Group PLC, announced its half-year results and released details of a successful summer 2010 at its 8 northern airport bases, and plans for future growth.
Jet2.com, the leading leisure airline with friendly low fares, has announced it has completed yet another record summer season carrying 2.8 million passengers across all bases, including the first summer from its latest base at East Midlands Airport where Jet2.com began operations in May. Jet2.com offers sun, city and ski flights from Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, East Midlands, Blackpool, Belfast, Edinburgh and will be flying from its new base at Glasgow from March 2011.
For winter 2010 Jet2.com has added new routes to Hurghada, Madeira, Geneva, Chambery, Salzburg and Budapest, and has increased frequency on others.
For 2011 Jet2.com is selling an extra 1 million seats, and will commence 26 routes and operate increased frequency on many of the most popular leisure destinations – making a total of 5 million seats already on sale. New routes include the Dordogne Valley (Brive), Bodrum and Krakow.
To help meet ever-increasing demand, Jet2.com will add four additional aircraft to the fleet. Ready for summer 2011 all Jet2.com aircraft will feature innovative ergonomically designed seating. The seats give customers great legroom and allow them to fully stretch their legs out making the passenger experience more comfortable. The seats are lighter which means that less fuel is needed, which helps keep the airline’s fares as low as possible.
Jet2.com will be looking to fill 600 jobs for the Summer 2011 season across ground staff, airport based customer service and check in staff, cabin crew, flight deck and engineering.
Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com and Dart Group Plc, commented: “Despite it being a challenging economic climate, which has seen both airlines and tour operators failing, we have had a very successful 2010 to date. We put this down to our friendly service and the popularity of our convenient flight times, 22kg baggage allowance and allocated seats and points for free flights that reward our loyal customers.
“We are excited about 2011- with our new base opening at Glasgow, new destinations, new routes, additional aircraft and new staff joining the team. Jet2.com is going from strength to strength.”
