In the weeks leading up to Easter, the Canary Island is awash with various religious celebrations
Until the 24th of April, La Laguna will be playing host to a special Easter celebration. Known as the religious capital of Tenerife, the city will come to life in the months leading up to the Christian holiday with various activities on offer for locals and tourists alike to enjoy.
A Rare Sight
For the eight days prior to Easter Sunday, the brotherhoods and processional ‘Pasos’ of La Laguna’s churches will walk in silence through the city streets, praying and meditating. The sight is one not to be missed if you’re currently on the Canary Island, as it is one that rarely comes about.
Until the Friday before Easter Sunday, various municipalities throughout the south of Tenerife will have on a dramatisation of the Passion of the Christ. Held annually in these cities in the lead up to Easter, the productions are made up of amateur actors, and are completely free to both locals and tourists to watch.
Attracting a consistently large audience each year, the play is made suitable for all audiences and tells the story of the last days of Jesus of Nazareth.
Anyone keen to watch these religious celebrations will be pleased to hear Jet2.com have cheap flights to Tenerife on offer.
