You may think that going to Paris in the summer will mean missing out on the seaside fun that you might be seeking in the holiday season. But ‘Paris-Plages’ (Paris Beach) festival starts on 21st July lasting for over a month and has a variety of activities going on all day, every day until late.
This event, which started in 2002, transforms large stretches by the river Seine into areas of sandy beach. City-beaching is one of the more fun types of ‘seaside’ holidaying because it is never dull. Free concerts and swimming pools are suspended over the river, whilst kayaking and aqua-gym classes make this a truly dynamic urban summer holiday. It offers you a whole new perspective of the city as you stroll along the riverbank and laze in deckchairs overlooking the dramatic architecture of Paris without stretching the budget.
From Outdoors to In
If you are feeling adventurous you can visit the Bassin de la Villette, which for the summer becomes a huge water-sports complex where you can kayak, row, and zoom about in dinghies. When the sun goes down, you can pop over to the really modern Parc de la Villette, where there are free cinema screenings meaning you can enjoy a film (a lot of which are in English) and carry on a day of outdoor fun with a laid back picnic into the evening. Since cheap flights to Paris are available with Jet2.com, a trip to the city in the summer months is the best of both worlds.
