A holiday in a sunny destination like Tenerife doesn’t have to be all about sunbathing and swimming. Especially if you haven’t managed to get the beach body you promised yourself you would when you first booked your trip.

The saving grace of visiting somewhere like Tenerife is that there is so much to experience without getting your kit off, and one of the most popular pastimes is eating; and who doesn’t like to eat?


As with all the Canary Islands, the top choice for most meals is seafood. Because of its location, Tenerife has an array of fish on offer including sea bream, grouper and Combtooth blennies.


Around half of Tenerife’s food export industry comes from its cheese so you can be sure the locals can serve up a good portion. Favourites include goats cheese and soft, cured and smoked cheeses.


Do as the locals do and top off your choice of cheese with a delightful glass of wine. Another key area of export in Tenerife, its wine is made at one of five main wine growing regions including: Tacoronte-Acentejo, Abona, Valle de Güímar Valle de La Orotava and Ycoden-Daute-Isora.
