New figures released by the Tenerife Tourism Corporation have revealed a sharp rise in the number of UK visitors to the island in 2011 compared with the previous year.
According to the new data, the number of UK visitors in 2011 totalled almost 1.66 million – a rise of 10.6% on those visiting the island in 2010.

September 2011 was revealed as particularly popular, with UK visitor numbers during that month showing a staggering 34% rise over the same period in 2010.
Overall, the figures reveal that visitors from the UK now account for 32.1% of Tenerife’s overall tourism market.
Value for Money
Some commentators point to the general availability of cheap flights to Tenerife as being a possible contributing factor to the increase in visitor numbers from the UK.
Other sources, however, also cite value for money in the holiday accommodation stakes as being a key driver of tourism to the island.
A recent survey by independent holiday review website, TripAdvisor, revealed that for the period covering July and August this year, average weekly rental accommodation costs across the Canary Islands as a whole, including Tenerife, stood at £281 – the third cheapest of all countries surveyed by the organisation.
With this combination of reasonably priced accommodation and cheap flights to Tenerife, this holiday island could well continue to be a popular destination for UK visitors.
