Part of the joy of a city break in Barcelona is having all the benefits of a thriving metropolis with easy access to the beach. So when you’ve had your fill of Gaudi and La Rambla, where should you go to find the best spots for soaking up the sun?
Barcelona’s most well-known beach is probably Barceloneta. Popular with tourists and locals alike, this stretch of golden sand is located right next to the city, and is packed with hotels, bars and restaurants for those who want a lively beach experience with lots of amenities nearby.
Perfect Places to Top Up Your Tan
On the other side of the Port Olimpic, the Nova Icaria beach is similarly bustling and particularly well known for its great restaurants. The much larger and quieter Bogatell beach is just a little further along the coast, and features a long stretch of stone walkway ideal for joggers and cyclists. If you’re looking for an all-over tan, then Mar Bella is Barcelona’s nudist beach, located in a secluded, tranquil spot to the east of the others.
Finally, for the true beach buff, you need only travel a little further down the coast to the experience the beautiful resort of Sitges, which features no less than 10 beaches and plenty of places to hire yourself a sun lounger, jet-ski or surfboard.
