06th May 2011
As one of the best places in Europe for culture and entertainment, the city of Barcelona in Spain consistently has a range of different festivals on every month. Varying in style, they each tailor for a specific audience, but their amount and quality means there will almost always be something on for everyone – and this May is no exception to that.
Public Transport Poetry
From the 11th until the 17th of May, Barcelona will be playing host to a poetry festival. Entitled simply “Barcelona Poetry”, the event is quite unique in its style and execution.
The windows of the Spanish city’s busses will be covered in verse for the week, as will tube carriages and several other forms of public transport. At the same time, a series of readings will take place all around the city in various venues. There’ll also be workshops and lectures for those keen to put pen to paper themselves, making the festival both entertaining and informative.
On various days from the 20th until the 29th of May, Barcelona’s biggest music festival will be on. Primavera Sound Festival is held at different venues within the city, and has some of music’s biggest names in its line-up.
Heading up the festival this year are the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, Sufjan Stevens, Interpol and Belle & Sebastian, along with dozens of others. For those who are already in the city during the festival, you should definitely look in to securing a ticket, but cheap flights to Barcelona from Jet2.com mean that visiting exclusively to attend is more than worthwhile.
