23rd July 2011
As easy as it would be to spend all your holiday time in Cyprus soaking up the sun and swimming in the sea, there is a lot more on offer if you can tear yourself away from the beach for a few hours.
In particular, Cyprus hosts many cultural festivals over the summer. Here are three that might get you off your sun lounger and into some culture!
12th Paradise Jazz Festival
From the 29th July – 6th August, Pomos hosts its renowned jazz festival at Paradise Place. 28 artists from as far and wide as Poland, Israel, Spain and of course neighbouring Greece will perform.
Tickets can be bought on the night so there’s no pressure of pre-purchasing tickets.
Limassol Wine Festival
From August to September, the famous city celebrates its annual wine harvest after festivities begin with the traditional of grape stamping. There are many varieties of local wine available to taste, including its dessert wine Commanderia.
Unless you speak the language, you will have to rely on the allure of the unknown as Cypriots sing, dance and play guitar against the pretty backdrop of the Amathous ruins in Limassol. Events, organised by the Agios Tychonas Community Board, happen throughout July.
Book a cheap flight to Cyprus and combine sun and sea with song and dance, and perhaps a glass of wine; all in the name of culture!
