Barcelona is known for its fantastic festivals among many other things and barely a week goes by in the city that doesn’t include a festival or two.
One of the biggest festivals throughout September is the Asia Festival – a weeklong celebration of all things Asian including concerts, exhibitions, theatrical performances and culinary experiences.
This year the event will be celebrating its 10th anniversary and promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Asia Festival first came to Barcelona in 2001 with the aim of raising awareness of Asian culture in Spain.

2011’s festival will focus on countries from Central Asia. The Festival will kick off with the ethnic folk band Turan from Kazakhstan. There’ll also be music from the Chinese singer-songwriter Mamer, whose debut solo album ‘Eagle’ received worldwide critical acclaim.
The Festival will also provide a platform for talented up and coming musicians including Japan’s eclectic young band Pe’z (Samurai Jazz Band) and Pakistan’s pop singing sensation Humera Harshad.
Events take place from 16th – 25th September at various locations around Barcelona. Cheap flights to Barcelona depart daily from Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow so if you want to experience something new and exciting on your next visit to the Catalan city, check out the Asia Festival.
