Brand new dish created to celebrate launch – the Haggis Paella!
The leading
leisure airline, Jet2.com, is
giving Scottish sun worshippers something to shout ‘Olé’ about by launching five brand new
routes from Glasgow Airport to
Spanish holiday hotspots Barcelona, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga and Murcia – 2012
flights to these new destinations are on sale now.
To celebrate
the launch, the airline has teamed up with leading local tapas restaurant, Barca on Princes Square, to combine
classic dishes from Spain and Scotland to create a world first, Haggis
Paella! Barca’s head chef joined members of the Jet2.com
Glasgow team to offer lucky customers a sample of this unique new delicacy.
Ian Doubtfire,
managing director of Jet2.com, commented: “What better way
to celebrate the launch of five new Spanish sunshine routes than creating our
own unique version of the famous paella – fusing two iconic national dishes to
give people a flavour of the great destinations now available from their local
airport.”
Jet2.com’s
new flights to Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona, the sunshine
island of Lanzarote, Malaga – the ‘Gateway to the Costa del Sol’ – and the
beautiful coastal resort of Murcia will depart from March 2012. Flights will
depart as follows:
- Barcelona –
three times a week, with prices starting from £29.99 one way including
taxes
- Lanzarote –

- Malaga – four
times a week, with prices starting from £29.99 one way including taxes

weekly, with prices starting from £29.99 one way including taxes
From May 2012
passengers will be able to jet off to the party island of Ibiza –
flights will depart twice a week, with prices starting from £39.99
including taxes.
Families and
couples looking for great value package holidays to these popular destinations
can take advantage of the offers from sister company Jet2holidays – whichcombine Jet2.com flights, resort transfers, 22kg baggage
allowance, handpicked two to five star hotels and ATOL protection, from just £310
per person for seven nights. And those booking before 4th July
can save up to £100 off the prices of any Summer 2011, Winter 2011/12 and
Summer 2012 break.
The airline
has also put on sale 2012 flights to four of the destinations that are proving
popular for this summer – Alicante, Faro, Majorca and Tenerife – and is making
20 per cent more seats available to Alicante, Faro and Malaga as well as
providing an additional service to Tenerife.
Ian Doubtfire
continued: “There’s no doubt this is an exciting time for us at Glasgow
Airport. In just two months since we started flying from our newest base
we have launched five new routes and also increased capacity to some of our
most popular destinations – this demonstrates how committed we are to growing
the range of great value destinations we offer to customers across Glasgow and
the west of Scotland.
“We are really
pleased with bookings so far with 150,000 seats already sold, covering both Jet2.com
and Jet2holidays passengers.
The feedback from passengers on our generous 22kg baggage allowance,
allocated seating and friendly flight times is very positive, so we are now
enabling people to plan ahead and book their summer breaks for 2012.”
Customers keen
to book their 2012 break will also be able to use Jet2.com’s new
booking process. In an overhaul of its popular website it has launched
inclusive pricing – with all taxes and charges now included from the outset so
that customers can easily get a sense of their total costs up front.
Francois Bourienne, Commercial Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “As expected,
there has been huge demand for Jet2.com’s flights since its
arrival at Glasgow Airport earlier this year and we’re delighted it has
responded by launching five new routes. The airline is clearly committed to
continually improving its service for customers and should be congratulated for
doing so.”
Councillor
Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow
City Marketing Bureau, added: “Jet2.com’s plans to
launch five new in-bound services from Spain at very competitive prices next
year is yet more great news for tourism in Glasgow and serves as a clear vote
of confidence in Glasgow Airport and in the attractiveness of the city's
fantastic cultural credentials.
"We have
been working closely with both Jet2.com and the airport over the
last few months on a joint communications strategy to support the airline's
other new and existing in-bound services to Glasgow, thus maximising local
economic benefit opportunities. We very much look forward to continuing that
relationship into the future."
Jet2.com
offers flights from Glasgow Airport to 13 city, sun and ski destinations:
Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Geneva, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Majorca, Malaga, Murcia,
Nice, Paphos, Tenerife and Turkey.
Taste testers
The special
haggis paella was made by head chef Alberto Juarez Castillo and combined haggis
with paella rice, chopped tomatoes, peppers and onions, plus saffron and
seasoning.
The paella was
taste tested by Jet2.com Glasgow team members Lesley-Ann
Ferguson, Andrew Marshall and Paul O’Hara. Lesley said: “I thought
haggis and paella was a bit of an unusual combination but when I had some it
tasted great – the mild spices in the haggis
really complemented the flavours in the paella. I think it’s a fantastic way to
mark the launch of the new flights from Glasgow and we hope plenty of
Glaswegians will soon have the opportunity to enjoy their very own taste
of Spain!”
