Anybody who enjoys listening to live jazz with a bottle of good wine should think about booking cheap flights to Dubrovnik before the end of May, because that is when the International Wine and Jazz Festival is expected to take place, uniting these two rather different elements of Croatian culture.
Dubrovnik is not a city normally associated with jazz music, but the city has held an excellent festival for the last two years, featuring some top international bands and artists – and some pretty good Dalmatian wines, too.
The details for this year’s festival are sketchy – no actual dates or performers have yet been confirmed – but the rumours are that it will take place at the end of May. It is a partner to the Vancouver Wine and Jazz festival, which has been held each summer without fail since 1998, so it is by no means a ‘fly by night’ event.
Top Professional Acts
The festival showcases top professional acts from all corners of the genre, such as the blind Grammy award winning pianist and jazz singer, Diane Schurr. Big band contributions have included the Duke Ellington School of Jazz Ensemble, who performed with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra last year in a unique fusion of two very different genres. Fusion will no doubt feature in the 2013 programme, along with blues, be-bop, funk, swing, and soul. Alongside this will be the best cuisine and wines Croatia has to offer.
With jazz, wine and a beautiful city to explore, it’s worth remembering that cheap flights to Dubrovnik can be booked through Jet2.com.
