Your Last Chance to Visit Barcelona’s Famous Christmas Market

19th December 2011 • Posted in Announcements

Barcelona might not seem like an obvious choice for Christmas Markets but this year’s Santa Llucia Fair is popular with Jet2 passengers. Dating back to 1786, the Christmas Market is held outside Barcelona’s Cathedral every year.

More than 300 stalls sell seasonal wares, including handcrafted Catalan gifts, toys, jewellery and decorations. As you stroll around the market you’ll also come across nativity scenes, musical parades and festive exhibitions.

Presents in Barcelona

A yearly feature at the fair is the giant caga tio - a huge, cartoon like Christmas log that dispenses sweets and presents to the kids.

Try Traditional Treats

No visit to the Santa Llucia Fair would be complete without sampling traditional Catalan nougat (torron), a favourite with locals at this time of year and Christmas bread (Pa de Nadal).

As the market is set right in the heart of Barcelona, you’re never far from other wonderful cultural sites such as the Palau de la Musica, La Pedrera, Casa Batllo and Parc Guell.

This year’s Santa Llucia Fair runs until December 23rd so there’s still time to book your cheap flights to Barcelona at Jet2.com. Flights go from Glasgow, Leeds Bradford and Manchester.
