-Jet2.com and Jet2holidays celebrate a decade of flying to top Canary Island destination

-Surprise gift for loyal Leeds traveller

- Local travel agent gets a slice of anniversary action too!

On 16th October, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays celebrated 10 years of flying to Tenerife from Leeds Bradford Airport, by rewarding their most frequent flyer to their first ever Canary Island destination with a decade’s worth of free flights.

Andrew Tylee (64), from Alwoodley, has jetted off to Tenerife with the leading leisure operator an impressive 41 times. As a thank you he was treated to a special visit to the airport where he was presented with his surprise gift by Jet2.com and Jet2holidays commercial director, Steve Lee.

Andrew said: “I’ve flown with Jet2.com for years and can’t praise them enough for their friendliness – they’re always so helpful and easy to deal with. I have a property in Tenerife which I visit throughout the year and it’s so easy to access from Leeds Bradford Airport. Thank you Jet2.com and Jet2holidays for this fantastic gift!”

Since the first flight took off in October 2005, Tenerife has grown to become one of Jet2.com’s top destinations in the region, with the airline carrying more than 660,000 passengers to and from the island over the past 10 years. Jet2holidays has also seen continued demand, with 88,687 customers booking great value package breaks to the destination since the company launched in 2008.

A decade on the growth is continuing. Next year will see Jet2.com and Jet2holidays operate their biggest ever programme to Tenerife. More than 6,000 extra seats will be available plus the number of flights will increase from 26 to 33 a week, giving local customers even more choice and flexibility for their Canary Island break.

Steve Lee said: “We’re thrilled to be celebrating 10 years of flying to Tenerife, it only seems like yesterday that I was waving off the first ever flight! It was the very first Canary Island destination we offered to our customers and it is great to see that it is proving as popular as ever year round, with next year being our biggest yet.

“Its success at Leeds Bradford has led us to expand our Canary Island product. Yorkshire customers now have three additional destinations to choose from, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, plus from next February flights and holidays to Tenerife will operate from all our seven airport bases for the very first time. We’ve grown significantly since our first year of operations, when we launched with only three weekly flights, and I’m sure the destination will be just as successful for us over the next decade.”

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport's Aviation Development Director, added: "We congratulate Jet2.com and Jet2holidays on reaching a major milestone in their Tenerife operations at Leeds Bradford Airport. The island offers great value for money and year round sun and so it's not surprising that Yorkshire holidaymakers have made it a firm favourite."

In addition to rewarding its most frequent Tenerife flyer with free flights, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays also ensured its most successful local travel agent didn’t miss out on a slice of anniversary action. The team at Idle Travel were surprised with a case of champagne and a giant cake to thank them for securing the most Tenerife bookings.
