Corfu

Corfu is the greenest of all the Greek Islands and offers a mixture of a cosmopolitan and traditional atmosphere, great shopping, and lively nightlife as well as being scattered with ancient ruins and churches. Corfu has much to offer holidaymakers of all ages, attracting families, couples and groups seeking a fantastic beach holiday, great food and a lot of sun.

There are many sand and pebble beaches to choose from, most offering a huge array of water sports so you won’t get bored lying on your sun lounger all day. One of the best is Glyfada beach or the beautiful bay beaches in Paleokastritsa. They are all well served with amenities so you don’t have to worry about running out of sun cream and there are many tavernas around so you can get some shade from the midday sun.

If spending all day on the beach doesn’t really appeal then you can visit some of the numerous sights on the island. The Achillio Palace and Palace of St. Michael and St. George are beautiful examples of architecture, with churches such as St. Spiridon’s Church proving to be both intriguing and stunning. There are also several ruins such as the Angelokastro, giving an insight into Corfu’s ancient Greek past.

Wherever you stay, boat trips are available so that you can visit neighbouring resorts or even venture as far as mainland Greece or Albania where you can spend the day. If you feel daring then take a rock jumping excursion where you can see how high your nerves will take you as you plunge several feet into the sea from the rock: guaranteed to leave you with fond holiday memories!

Shopping in Corfu is also good, particularly in Corfu Town where you can buy local produce and gold jewellery at very competitive prices as well as find souvenirs to take home.

There is a huge choice of places to eat out: from luxury restaurants serving the finest dishes to traditional tavernas serving authentic Corfiot food and freshly caught seafood, as well as other restaurants serving international cuisine.

Several resorts including Kavos, Sidari and Gouvia offer a lively (sometimes wild!) nightlife, whereas others are more subdued depending on your tastes. Whatever you like, you are sure to find something; be it a modern and trendy bar, rave club, traditional taverna or beach bar so you can spend your evenings exactly as you like.

No matter what you fancy you are sure to find something for everyone in the fantastic holiday destination of Corfu. Have a look at our resort guides below to find out more information.
