Crete
One of the main allures of Crete is its Mediterranean climate which it enjoys throughout the year with mild winters and dry, hot summers. With history galore, beautiful beaches and an excellent nightlife, Crete is a fantastic destination for couples, families and groups alike and promises something for everyone on a sun soaked holiday.
Crete is the largest and most Southern island in Greece and is divided into the four prefectures of Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lasithi each with its own charms and attractions. With the Island being only 160 miles long you can easily visit each of these areas during your holiday and discover what each has to offer.
The landscape of Crete is very mountainous with three mountain ranges spanning across the island and creating a beautiful and exhilarating backdrop to your holiday. There are also many golden sandy beaches stretching along the coastline where you can spend your days topping up your tan, building sandcastles or perhaps taking part in watersports in the warm sea.
Crete is famed for its ancient Minoan history and it is nearly impossible not to find any remains of this intriguing past while you are there. The Palace of Knossos is one of the most fascinating sightseeing experiences in the world and there are also several ruins of ancient Greek cities throughout the island.
In the evenings there is a vast choice of venues to choose from including authentic Greek tavernas where you can sample some of the local souvlaki to restaurants serving international cuisine or traditional British food. Moving on you can choose to stay at the tavernas where there is often Greek dancing and music or else head to the popular nightlife resorts such as Malia and Heraklion for a wild night of drinking and dancing until dawn.
