Larnaca

Overview

Beach in Larnaca

Larnaca is a city located on the South East coast of Cyprus with numerous golden sandy beaches stretching across 25km with the main ones of Phinikoudes and McKenzie having been awarded Blue Flags for cleanliness.

As one of the main resorts in Cyprus, Larnaca has all of the essential amenities and more including many restaurants, tavernas and cafes as well as bars, clubs and pubs where you can relax in the balmy evenings or dance the night away.

A favourite past time for both tourists and locals in Larnaca is watersports. There are facilities for virtually every kind of water activity you can think of including jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, diving, snorkelling and surfing.

As the birth place of Aphrodite, Larnaca isn’t all beaches and bars, the city is also steeped in history with the Church of Saint Lazarus, Archeological Museum and the ruins of Kition which are all well worth a visit.

Things to do

Church of Saint Lazarus in Larnaca

Kition

The ruins of this ancient city date back to the 13th century BC with parts of it having been rebuilt by the Archean Greeks. The remains of the Cyclopean walls and five temples are particularly interesting and give a fascinating insight into the former life of people in Cyprus.

Church of Saint Lazarus

Originally erected in the 9th century, the Church of Saint Lazarus was built to house the remains of Lazarus who was raised from the dead by Jesus. The church contains a beautiful wooden carved throne, the skull and holy relics belonging to Lazarus. There is also an on site museum housing more religious relics in this beautiful and ancient church.
