The resort

The valley resort in south-eastern France boasts a 16th century church right in the centre, with pistes ideal for the less hardened slope-goer. So, ski or board by day, or hit the torch-lit powder by night. Morillon is so renowned for families that it even carries the desirable Famille Plus Montagne label.

Starting line

If you’re a beginner or mid-level skier, you’ll be treated like royalty in these parts. You’ll have just under 15 green and blue runs to choose from in Morillon, but the entire Grand Massif area extends your options, so you ought to check out what’s further afield. There are even practice runs for eager children.

Frosty forests

Through the icy branches of the tree-lined slopes, you’ll find half-pipes, daring descents and challenging pistes which tend to sit further up the mountain. There’s a funpark for snowboarders, and a children’s village of equal enjoyment to explore with your younger ones.

Cosy evenings

This dozing little Savoyard village is a quiet retreat with an emphasis on families, filled with classic chalets to keep you warm in the evenings. Enjoy vin chaud over cheese and delectable cured meats after a cinema trip with the kids. Why not book a massage as well? There’s an excellent spa, alongside a smattering of bars contributing to the atmospheric après-ski.

The highlights

  • There’s a distinct family focus within the resort, including nursery runs for children.
  • Quaint resort with lots of relaxing things to do off the skis.
  • Super slopes for intermediate-level abilities.
