A Guide to Pedalling Around Paris

18th June 2012 • Posted in Announcements

So much to do, so little time – it can be hard work visiting on cheap flights to Paris, unless you employ some pedal power to help you get around. The city has over 440km of cycle paths, many of which are separated from other traffic by barriers making bikes a safe, cheap and very convenient way of doing all that sightseeing.

Bike Paris

Hiring a bike is very simple too, and can be done by visiting one of the many bicycle hire shops in the city, or by using Vélib'. This is an automated public bike-share service that can be subscribed to for as little as 24 hours, and you can pick up your bike from any of 1,200 stations in convenient locations across Paris, making it the most extensive bike-share system in the world.

Sundays are Fun-Days

If you’re visiting Paris over a weekend, save some sightseeing for Sunday as this is when many roads are closed as part of the ‘Paris Respire’ initiative. Between the hours of 9am and 5pm on Sundays, certain roads are open only to cyclists, pedestrians and rollerbladers, making them even safer and easier to navigate on two wheels.

Getting to Paris is cheap and convenient too, thanks to flights to Paris that start at just £21.99 one way including taxes. Just don’t forget to wear sensible shoes!
