Many music lovers from across the UK are opting to head to the continent to take in music festivals this summer – hardly a surprise given that UK festivals have proved a washout due to inclement weather in recent summers.

Fans of alternative indie music will find their niche at Barcelona's Primavera Sound festival, which is held every May at Parc del Forum against the dramatic backdrop of the Mediterranean sea. Previous years have featured acts as diverse as Florence and the Machine, the Pixies and Jarvis Cocker. Many people choose Jet2.com when looking for cheap flights to Barcelona for the Primavera Sound festival.

From Croatia to Holland

For those who are more tempted by beats and bleeps than guitars and amps, the Garden Festival in Croatia might appeal. This festival is wall-to-wall dance music, with a host of DJs and live acts playing across a weekend in July. Cheap flights to Dubrovnik in Croatia mean that many people now choose to combine their mad festival weekend with some relaxation time on the coast.

For those who want all of the diversity of Glastonbury but without the sea of mud, it could be worth planning a trip to A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, or simply 'Lowlands' to those in the know. As well as featuring big headline music acts like Fall Out Boy, the August festival also hosts comedy, theatre, literature and performing arts stages. Flights to Amsterdam from the UK give easy access to the rest of the Netherlands thanks to its excellent public transport network.
