Venice is known for many things such as gondola rides, beautiful architecture, canals, bridges and its endless maze of streets. But on October 23rd a large part of this magical floating city will be transformed into a 26 mile running circuit as it hosts the Venice Marathon.

Cheer on the Runners at the Venice Marathon

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of this annual event, which attracts thousands of spectators every year. Seven thousand fun runners and athletes come from all over the world to take part in the marathon. The canals that run through Venice make it one of the flattest and quickest courses in the world.

Capturing the Beauty of Venice

If there is one place in the world to watch a marathon then Venice is the place as it captures the sights and the atmosphere of this romantic city.

The runners begin at Stra, a quaint country town 15 miles west of Venice. The run also features 14 little bridges over Venice’s canals. The runners eventually cross the finish line in the historic centre of

Venice, on the embankment known as the Riva dei Sette Martiri. The views from this point are spectacular.
