  • Supporting Head Held High Appeal, all donations will be doubled by UK Government before 23rd December

We’re proud to announce the charitable work of our colleagues and customers at and Jet2holidays has been recognised by the international children’s charity Hope for Children, who have named us as their Corporate Partner of the Year.

The announcement has been made today (Giving Tuesday) in recognition of the £100,000 raised since 2010 by our staff and customers. This achievement and our long-standing relationship was recognised at an awards ceremony in London recently. A number of our initiatives contributed to the total, including donations by customers through on-board scratch cards, as well as colleague activities including dress down Fridays, charity skydives, the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, sponsored runs and charity bike rides.

Our team in our Leeds headquarters are also getting ready to take part in a Christmas Jumper Day on 21st December 2017, with all the money raised to be doubled thanks to Hope for Children being selected by the Department for International Development (DFID) to receive match funding in support of its first ever national fundraising appeal.

Hope for Children’s Head Held High Appeal will run until 23rd December 2017, with the appeal raising funds for vulnerable children in Africa who are being denied their basic right to education. Through the UK Aid Match scheme, every pound donated or raised during the appeal, will be matched by the Government – and this includes our and Jet2holidays’ Christmas Jumper Day.

Steve Heapy, said: “We are very proud to be recognised as Corporate Partner of the Year by Hope for Children. Our colleagues are passionate about our long-term support for this fantastic charity, and thanks to their generosity as well as the kindness of our customers, we have been able to raise over £100,000. We will be doing everything we can to encourage donations for the Head Held High Appeal, as the pound for pound matching by the UK Government will make a huge difference.”

Murielle Maupoint, CEO of the charity said: “We are so grateful to and Jet2holidays for their years of commitment and support. The Corporate Partner of the Year Award was more competitive than ever before in 2017, and we felt the unwavering enthusiasm and passion of colleagues and customers to support our life-changing work gave them the edge.”

The extra income from UK aid match funding will help Hope for Children provide a range of activities in northern Ghana including providing school books and uniforms, running teacher training programmes to improve the quality of education available, and community workshops that teach girls about their right to education.

As a result of these simple solutions, thousands of disadvantaged children will have the opportunity to break free from poverty and live their life with their head held high. Funds raised by the Appeal will also be used to support the charity’s education projects in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
