Get into the spirit!
The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is an annual festive tradition that’s been held for centuries. Local girls apply for the voluntary role of the Christkind, who opens the market with a prologue. Meander around 180 chocolate-box stalls made of spruce and fairy lights, and buy Prune Men gifts, wooden trinkets, and glasses of steaming Glühwein.
If you only eat one local specialty while you’re there, make it the Nuremberg Rostbratwurst. This sausage is very particular, at no longer than 9cm, and made from minced pork and marjoram. Crispy, crackling-topped pork knuckle with dumplings and sauerkraut is another hero. Got a sweet tooth? You can’t beat the mouth-watering Lebkuchen.
