Home Page / Cookies

As explained in our Privacy Policy, at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, we are committed to only collecting, using and disclosing your personal data in ways that you expect and have consented to or as we are required and permitted by law. Cookies and similar technologies may collect personal data about you and in this policy we explain what information we collect and what purposes it is used for.

We understand that not everybody needs or wants to know how we use their information in the same level of detail, so we have created two levels of information for you. If you just want to know the basics, read the 'essential information' section for each topic. If you want to know more, you can read the 'detailed information' section so you can learn more about a particular issue.

What are cookies?

Essential Information

When you open an email from us, visit our website or one of our Apps, we use standard technology to collect information which includes, how the website is used, the type of device or computer you are using, your IP address, approximate location and, where applicable, the time it took to read the information.

This information is gathered through “Cookies”, web beacons or similar technologies.

Cookies are small files of letters and numbers that we put on your computer's hard drive. These small files allow us to distinguish you from other users of our websites, monitor website traffic and to personalise the content of the site for you. This ultimately helps us provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and allows us to improve our site going forward.

You can decide to disable your cookies but please be aware that certain cookies are absolutely necessary to let you do everything you want to on our websites. Disabling some other cookies will however have little impact on your experience but there may be some limitations – for example, you won’t be able to share content. It may also affect your experience on other websites. For more information on the different types of cookies we use please see detailed information below.

What type of cookies are there?

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas of the website. Without these cookies services you have asked for, like shopping baskets or e-billing, cannot be provided.

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms.    You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation (such as “remember me”). They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages

Performance Cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site.

These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages. The cookies may also collect IP address and generate a device ID when you enter the site, to allow the service to provide relevant information and services, however this data is only provided to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays at an aggregated level. The use of the data from the Performance Cookies is used to improve how our website and marketing works.

Google are one of the providers of analytical tools that we use on our websites and apps. The services that we use from Google include the following:

  • Google Analytics – This enables us to analyse user visits to our websites and apps, across multiple devices to understand how a user browses and books flights or holidays. In addition, we can see how users reached our sites/apps through marketing activity. For example, if you click through one of our marketing emails on your phone and then click through the same email on your laptop – this could count as one user, rather than two. In order to provide this information, we use Google’s Universal Analytics cookie, known as “User ID”. This cookie will only collect anonymous data, but if you book a flight or log into your myJet2 account it may associate the use with your account.
  • Google DoubleClick – We use DoubleClick campaign tracking from Google to understand user interactions with our marketing activities and to optimise our marketing activities. This includes tracking the times where you may have seen a digital advert for Jet2.com or Jet2holidays but not clicked on the advert itself.
  • Google Attribution & Google Signals – this allows us to understand trends in how users interact with our marketing activity across devices.
  • Google Analytics for Firebase –Using device identifiers (including Android Advertising ID and the Advertising Identifier for iOS, known as IDFA), cookies and similar technologies, this enables us to analyse user interactions on our apps and optimise user experience in apps and app related marketing campaigns.

Our web site may use technologies from Quantum Metric to help analyse how users navigate our web pages, links and forms. This technology involves us keeping a record of user activity such as mouse clicks, mouse movements, page scrolling and text keying within website forms. Any data collected through this technology used strictly to improve website usability and our overall customer experience. We do not collect or use any identifiable personal data in relation to this analysis and only use information that is captured in an aggregated form for statistical monitoring and reporting.

We may also collect IP address, AS Number, device ID and data about usage activity through our own first-party cookies or similar technologies to help prevent and detect fraudulent or anomalous activity on our website or apps. This includes the activity which records show us involve use of a site or app by automated bots who are not human users.

Where we identify inappropriate activity through this tooling we reserve the right to block traffic to our sites.

Targeting/Advertising Cookies

These cookies are used to deliver adverts more relevant to you and your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement as well as help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign. They are usually placed by advertising networks with the website operator’s permission. They remember that you have visited a website and this information is shared with other organisations such as advertisers. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. Quite often targeting or advertising cookies will be linked to advertising functionality provided by the other organisation.

Criteo is one of the third parties that we use to help us advertise by placing banners on various internet sites. Criteo places Cookies to help us measure the effectiveness of an advertising campaign and see how many users have clicked on a particular advert. Criteo may also use Cookies to display relevant offers (such as recommendations of products that you might be interested in) when you visit other websites. Please click here to visit the Criteo privacy policy (although please note that we cannot responsible for any content or use of a third party website).

For further information about different types of Cookies please click here.

Web beacons

We also use web beacons in our emails which can collect information about the type of device you are using to ensure that we display the correct format for the email, and that also collect information such as your IP address to enable us to gather statistical data and to personalise your email, for example, based on your approximate location.

What are Persistent and Session Cookies?

Cookies can expire at the end of a browser session (from when you open the browser window to when you close it) or they can be stored for longer.

Persistent Cookies are stored on your device in between browser sessions which allow your preferences or actions to be remembered next time you visit our site.

Session Cookies are temporary and allow our site to link your actions during a browser session. They may be used for a variety of purposes such as remembering what you have put in your ticket basket as you browse around our site. These Session Cookies expire after a browser session.

What are First and Third Party Cookies?

Whether a Cookie is ‘first’ or ‘third’ party refers to the website or domain placing the Cookie.

First Party Cookies, in basic terms, are Cookies set by the website you have visited - the website displayed in the URL window.

Third Party Cookies are Cookies that are set by a domain other than the one you are visiting. If you visit a website and a separate company sets a Cookie through that website then this would be a Third party Cookie.
