This beautiful old port town has plenty to offer any holidaymaker. Take in the history of Rhodes in the medieval Old Town with a visit to the Acropolis of Rhodes on Monte Smith Hill where you can also get fantastic panoramic views of the resort. Rhodes Aquarium makes a good day trip for families. It is owned by the National Centre for Marine Research and here you can see fascinating underwater species from sea flowers to turtles to octopuses! Also walk round the manmade but nevertheless beautiful Rodini Park where you can spot a peacock as you stroll along the bank of a stream. Take in some Greek art at the Municipal Gallery in the town centre.
In Rhodes new town the Mandraki Harbour is the first place to visit with busy markets and yachts and boats hauled up at the dock. The Lighthouse Tower of St Nicholas dominates the skyline, along with the 3 windmills. The new town is a must for shopaholics, with a mix of stylish boutiques for one off pieces and for high street names like Kookai and Benetton. If you are here for a longer stay then you can take an excursion to the nearby resort of Lindos where you can also enjoy a spot of shopping then rest your feet while you enjoy some of the finest Greek cuisine on the Island.
