If there is one monument that encapsulates Venice best it is the one you’re looking at behind me. The Rialto Bridge exudes romance and beauty, provides access to both sides of Venice and has a few shops for good measure.

It is the perfect focal point for any adventure you take around the City of Bridges and also a good landmark to rely on if, or should that be, when you get lost. However, if there is one place where you wouldn’t mind getting lost, it is Venice.

Truth is though, you might not even need to venture far from the bridge itself. Shops and stalls, selling everything from handmade bespoke jewellery to designer goods, will keep shopaholics entertained for hours. Just remember to appreciate the beauty of the bridge when inside.

From the outside, one of the best ways to appreciate Rialto Bridge and Venice itself is on a famous gondola.

But for those who prefer to stay on terra firma, St Mark’s Square is only five minutes away. From there, check out Harry’s Bar, famous for its Bellini and being a favourite of Hemmingway back in the day. Plus you’ll be in good company with the likes of Woody Allen often seen relaxing there!
