Set in the heart of the French Alps, Alpe d'Huez is 63km east of Grenoble, and lies:
A purpose-built resort founded in 1936, this central spot provides a modern base for a winter retreat. Famous for being home to the longest black run in Europe – ‘La Sarenne’ – this resort is also great for skiers of both beginner and intermediate standards too.
Renowned for its sunny weather – more than 300 days of the year in fact! – this versatile resort has gained its well-deserved nickname of ‘the island of the sun’. Team this with a breathtaking mountainous backdrop and a wide range of slope heights and you’re all set for a wonderful week of ski!
Cyclists in the know will be familiar with the fact that Alpe d'Huez has a regular place on the Tour de France route, drawing thousands of spectators to cheer on the riders. As well as being world renowned for its skiing, the resort also held bobsleigh events during the Winter Olympics back in 1968.
From an ice rink to an outdoor pool, there’s plenty to keep you busy when you’re away from the slopes. Cinema lovers can enjoy the choice of two, while foodies will find a wide range of restaurants to choose from. From traditional French food to pizzerias and sandwich shops, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
