The resort

With its box-windowed buildings sitting by the mountains, Flaine has an air of stepping into the past as you hit the slopes. The snow-filled bowl is ideal for carved-out runs and tree-lined off-piste terrain, while there’s a traditional artistic note to the village. Take a detour to catch glimpses of the mighty Mont Blanc.

Cutting-edge slopes

The ridges and hillsides make awesome runs for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Across the mountains, you’ll be spoilt by epic snow parks and never-ending off-piste terrain that’s ideal for hardened skiers. The exclusive-sounding Diamond Noir is a must-do black run with an edgy twist.

Families in Flaine

It’s fabulous for families in Flaine. Two ski schools fully accommodate novices, making it easy to go at your own pace with the children. The resort is also a place of legend – rumour has it, a towering giant once laid his head on the snowy-mountain pillows of Flaine.

On the rise

The resort definitely has an old-fashioned exterior, with its Bauhaus-looking buildings designed by the architect Marcel Breuer. In attractive surroundings, the small car-free centre encapsulates classic French nostalgia, and even boasts an art gallery and library.

The highlights

  • Check out the staggering Grand Massif domain.
  • The resort boasts a superb snow record.
