Risoul ski resort

The location

You’ll find Risoul sandwiched within the French Alps, in the south-east of the country. It’s just over 150km from Turin Airport, and a little less than 200km from Grenoble, so it isn’t far whichever base you use.

The resort

The purpose-built resort caters for its guests well – you’ll be treated to 180km of downhill pistes. Powdery slopes are brilliant for beginners, while intermediates and skilled boardsmiths can carve up the mountainside in the terrain park and off-piste zones. Hit the cinema after a much needed glass of red in the many glittering restaurants.

Chalet life

Wood-clad accommodation will keep you warm at night, some chalets even with a blend of stone on the exterior. It’s the essence of ski resort, paired with surrounding historic villages. You’ll be promised minimal queues as you ascend the bustling area, too.

Sun and snow

The resort is known for its days of sunshine that make the snow-coated trails shimmer. The views get even prettier as you cross through the tree-lined runs. Risoul’s jaw-dropping scenery is a fabulous backdrop for skiers and snowboarders – especially as you sweep down the black runs and through the snow park – and it’s great for exploring on more leisurely afternoons.

When the lights go down

Après-ski gets fairly animated here in Risoul. Tuck into tasty cuisine over a pint of Dutch beer and clap for the bands as the live sessions get going. Once you’ve eaten, head to the cinema for a late-night flick, hit the disco, skating rink or even check out the snow shoe walks.

The highlights

  • Links with the slopes in Vars.
  • Huge snowbowl accommodating all levels of abilities.
  • There’s a whole host of other snow sports to get stuck into, including tobogganing and snow biking.
