New Routes, Announcements

- New destinations of Kos and Reus now available from Leeds Bradford Airport
- Flights from £41 and Jet2holidays’ package breaks from £319
-All summer 2014 flights and holidays to Cyprus and Greece also on sale

Jet2.com has cemented its position as Leeds Bradford Airport’s biggest leisure airline with the launch today of two new routes for 2014, the Greek island of Kos and the Catalan city of Reus.

These two new additions, along with the launch of Fuerteventura last month, mean the leading leisure airline, along with sister company Jet2holidays, now offer Yorkshire travellers the biggest choice of destinations in Greece and Spain - 5 of the most popular Greek islands and 12 Spanish hotspots including the Canaries and Balearics.

To celebrate, Jet2.com put its own unique spin on the Greek custom of plate smashing. It was a case of Yorkshire versus Greece as local cabin crew Laura Magee and Jacob Roberts challenged George Psarias, owner of The Olive Tree in Rodley, to the ultimate plate smashing contest. There was even an attempt to beat the current world record of 86 plates in 30 seconds!

Steve Heapy, Chief Executive Officer of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We’ve certainly had a smashing time celebrating the launch of these two new destinations! Greece and Spain continue to be very popular with our Yorkshire customers, so we are committed to expanding our flights and holidays to these countries to give people the widest possible choice. Kos and Reus are fantastic destinations which will appeal to all styles and budgets, whether you want a relaxing beach break, fun trip in the sun or cultural escape.

“Leeds Bradford Airport continues to be an important base for us and, in our 10th anniversary year, we are thrilled to still be its biggest operator. We give local travellers access to 48 top European holiday destinations direct from their doorstep.”

Flights to Kos take off on 6th May 2014 and are available from £79 including taxes. Reus begins operating on 17th June 2014, with prices from £41 including taxes. Jet2holidays customers will be able to take their pick from a host of stunning beach resorts including Kefalos and Psalidi in Kos and the Costa Doradan gems of Salou and Cambrils, close to Reus. Package holidays are available from £319 per person for 7 nights on a self-catering basis, secured with just a £60 deposit.

Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, added: “We are delighted that Jet2.com has added these two Mediterranean resorts to their 2014 programme from Leeds Bradford Airport. Both Reus in Spain and the Greek island of Kos benefit from fantastic weather, great beaches and a wide choice of accommodation and restaurants. Reus is also ideally placed for families wishing to visit the renowned PortAventura theme park.”

In addition to these two new routes, Yorkshire holidaymakers can now book summer 2014 flights and holidays to the Greek Islands of Corfu, Crete, Rhodes and Zante, plus the Cypriot destinations of Larnaca and Paphos. Flights are available from £76 including taxes and package holidays from £399.

Destination snapshots:

Kos
A perfect holiday destination for families and couples alike, Kos has something for everyone – whether it’s exploring ruins, enjoying a romantic meal in one of the many picturesque towns or having fun as a family on the several golden, sandy beaches. As the birthplace of Hippocrates, it is also ideal for people wanting to soak up some ancient history on their sunshine break. Popular attractions include the Asklepieio, a former sanatorium and the most significant archaeological site on the island, plus the White Stone Cave in Kefalos where relics dating back to the Bronze Age have been found. Children will love the Lido Water Park – one of the largest in Greece with a huge wave pool plus lots of fun slides and rides. Those looking for a lively night should head to Kardamena or Kos Town where there are plenty of bars and tavernas to enjoy a cocktail and dance the night away.

Reus
Reus is an ideal destination for holidaymakers who want to combine a city break with a beach holiday. This tranquil Catalan town is famous for the production of brandy and also for being the birthplace of famous Spanish architect, Gaudi. Culture lovers will enjoy following The Modernist Route, which showcases the city’s interesting works of architecture including the modernist buildings of Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The famous Costa Dorada, home to the popular seaside resort of Salou, is within easy reach and perfect for beach lovers. Thrill seekers will enjoy a day trip to Port Aventura – Spain’s biggest theme park with over 30 rides.
