Pupils from Froebelian school in Leeds beat local rivals at the Leeds schools’ High 5 netball finals for the chance to represent the city at the Jet2holidays West Yorkshire School Games.
Hundreds of players from schools across Leeds competed, with the top five schools qualifying for the district finals which will be held at Leeds Metropolitan University. Froebelian beat teams from Calverley CE, Churwell, St Aidan’s and St Matthew’s and will now take on teams from the rest of the county at the Jet2holidays West Yorkshire School Games, part of the national Sainsbury’s School Games.
The teams were congratulated by Yorkshire Jet’s Superleague players Lucy Richardson and Francine Marshall, and England Netball Development Officer, Rebecca Williams.
The county finals will take place on Tuesday 8th July at Leeds Metropolitan University in Headingley where 1,200 young people from across West Yorkshire will compete in 11 sports in the hope of being crowned county champions.
Run by West Yorkshire Sport, the West Yorkshire School Games 2014 is being sponsored by Leeds-based tour operator, Jet2holidays for the second year in a row. The games are part of the Sainsbury’s School Games, an Olympic legacy programme that aims to bring thousands of young people together, through sport.
