Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will wave off their first flight to Nice from Birmingham Airport this morning (Friday 26th May), when their inaugural flight to the South of France departs.

The busy flight will mark the start of the leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator operating twice weekly flights (Monday and Friday) from Birmingham Airport to Nice, a destination which features everything from beaches and glitzy restaurants to yacht filled marinas and is ideal for couples, individuals, and families. This brand-new route from Birmingham Airport to Nice is exclusive to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.

This inaugural flight follows the recent announcement that Jet2holidays has launched package holidays to the South of France for the first time this summer. Giving customers and independent travel agents in the Midlands the opportunity to book a package holiday to the South of France in Summer 23, the UK’s largest tour operator has put four new resorts on sale in the region - Menton, Antibes, Saint Raphael and Villefranche sur Mer. These new resorts are in addition to the existing resort of Cannes which was previously on sale with Jet2CityBreaks and is now available through Jet2holidays.

Over 20 2-5 star hotels in these resorts, including La Villa Port D'Antibes & Spa and AC Hotel by Marriott Ambassadeur Antibes Juan les Pins both in Antibes are available to book, meaning holidaymakers looking to enjoy a holiday in the South of France can take advantage of all the benefits of booking a package holiday with Jet2holidays. This includes VIP customer service, private transfers, and ATOL protection, along with friendly flight times to Nice and a generous 22kg baggage allowance with Jet2.com. Customers can also upgrade their booking to include car hire, giving them the opportunity to explore the sun-kissed south and freedom to come and go as they like.

As well as offering flights and holidays to Nice and the South of France this Summer 23, customers can also book a city break with Jet2CityBreaks to Nice from Birmingham Airport this summer. In response to demand to its city break offering, Jet2CityBreaks has recently added a number of hotels to its portfolio of properties in Monte Carlo. It means that Jet2CityBreaks has over 25 2–5-star hotels available to book now in Nice and Monte Carlo for Summer 23, offering customers the chance to experience both city and beach, as well as a rich culture combined with beautiful coastline.

Customers can choose from a flight-only booking with leading leisure airline, Jet2.com, or a package option with Jet2CityBreaks available for a low £60 per person deposit. Package options with Jet2CityBreaks include flights with Jet2.com, including 22kg free hold luggage and 10kg of free cabin baggage, as well as a choice of 2-5-star hotels in the best locations.

The start of flights and holidays to Nice is part of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ expanded programme for Summer 23 from Birmingham Airport. Thanks to the addition of these new destinations, it means the companies have two French destinations on sale this summer from the base (Nice and Bergerac).

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are offering a huge programme for Summer 23, with 51 sun and city destinations on sale from Birmingham Airport. This offers local customers and independent travel agents with unrivalled choice and flexibility when it comes to booking or enjoying a much-needed getaway to their favourite summer destinations.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We are delighted to see our first flight to Nice take off from Birmingham Airport today. Feedback from customers and independent travel agents in the Midlands has been telling us that flights and holidays to France are very much in demand for Summer 23, and we know that Nice is a destination that customers want to get to. Since putting services on sale to this destination from Birmingham Airport, local customers and independent travel agents have been booking getaways to this fantastic destination in their numbers.”

He added: “In yet more good news, we have recently launched package holidays to the South of France for the first time this summer, so holidaymakers in the region can enjoy all the many benefits of booking a package holiday with the UK’s largest tour operator. This means that customers can choose from a flight-only booking with Jet2.com, a package holiday with Jet2holidays or a city break with Jet2CityBreaks.”

Tom Screen, aviation director for Birmingham Airport (BHX), said: “Direct flights from Birmingham Airport to Nice, nicknamed Nissa La Belle, or ‘Nice the Beautiful,’ on the French Riviera and yet within easy reach of Les Alpes, is superb news for customers. Great work by Jet2.com and Jet2holidays - giving the people what they want.”

Franck Goldnadel, President of the Board of Airports of the Côte d'Azur, added: ”We are very happy to once again have a direct line to Birmingham and would like to thank Jet2.com and Jet2holidays for showing their confidence in our platform and in the attractiveness of our territory. Relations between Great Britain and the Côte d'Azur are important, both for leisure tourism and for maintaining relations between relatives, and this new destination strengthens the links between our two regions.”

Gwénaëlle Delos, Managing Director of Atout France in the UK & Ireland, said: "We are delighted with this new route in Jet2.com and Jet2holidays' service from Birmingham to Nice. Together with Cote d’Azur France, France remains a top destination for British travellers, and we are thrilled to welcome more and more of them. With ever-present sunshine, a wealth of multi-seasonal activities (arts and garden festivals, Picasso celebrations, outdoor and seaside adventures) and a series of highlights including the Rugby World Cup in September, Nice and the Cote d'Azur invite visitors to travel all year round - and this new offer only reinforces our joint efforts and objectives to promote France as a vibrant tourism destination."
